The hockey world and countless others lost a beloved coach, friend and mentor on Saturday, June 21, 2003 as Ottawa Senators assistant coach Roger Neilson passed away after a long-term battle with two forms of cancer.
To honour the memory of Roger, the Ottawa Senators Foundation is accepting donations for Roger’s House. Roger’s House will be located on the grounds of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) providing pediatric palliative care with the objective of enhancing the comfort and quality of life for children and their families. The concept was met with great enthusiasm from Roger when presented with the idea. We will be working closely with local health care agencies and organizations to fulfill Roger’s legacy.
Adjacent to the hospital and administered by CHEO’s experienced and expert staff, the Ottawa Senators and CHEO are forging a partnership that will see services compliment each other for the benefit of children, youth and their families.
Roger’s House will promote the celebration of life and pediatric palliative care including respite care for children, youth and families, anchored in an innovative, family-centered, holistic approach.
Roger’s House will be modeled after Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Vancouver, which provides specialized pediatric care for children living with progressive life-limiting illnesses and their families in British Columbia.
Donations for "Roger’s House" can be made payable to "Ottawa Senators Foundation - Roger’s House" and mailed to 1000 Palladium Drive, Kanata, Ontario, K2V 1A5. Donations are also accepted by phone by calling (613) 599-0323. Tax receipts issued for donations of $25 or more.
As the Senators and CHEO are busy working through the planning of Roger’s House, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support.
