A Run For Rog

Run For Rog
From L-R: Richard Smith, Devin Smith, Scott Howitt, Jonathan Weatherdon, Ian Pulver, Ian Penny, Steve Larmer.

Devin Smith, a close friend of Roger’s, ran the Toronto Half Marathon along with several of his co-workers from the National Hockey League Players’ Association (including Stanley Cup Champion Steve Larmer) on Sunday October 16th. The group solicited donations from friends of Roger all across Canada and successfully raised $950.00 for Roger’s House.

Smith, who worked at Roger’s hockey school, lived at his house while going to Trent University and named his second son (Tate Neilson) after the Hockey Hall of Fame coach, finished the marathon in just under two hours. Smith admitted they he didn’t set any speed records but felt good about completing the run in honour of his pal Roger.

“I rode a bike beside Rog (and his dog Mike) when he ran the full marathon in Ottawa back in the 80’s so it felt good to do something that Roger enjoyed as well. My colleagues and I were happy to raise some money for Roger’s House as it is a fantastic endeavour that the Senators and Ottawa community have embarked on.”

Devin says he’ll run again next year to raise more money for Roger’s House.
